A Stroll Around the Ouseburn
Many people are curious to know more about the Ouseburn area and its past. The area has changed significantly over time. Industry, residents, science and technology are all represented through the landscape, buildings and memories of the past.
Those changes are still continuing so why not come down, walk around and see for yourself by following our self-guided walk? We have put together a number of supporting packages that help you interpret what you are seeing and how science has played a key role in the area’s development. You can watch a film, listen or download an audio tour or view the map to see how the area has evolved over time.
'A Stroll Around the Ouseburn', available on DVD, leads you on a guided walk of the Valley. With expert commentary pointing out places of interest as well as hearing some fascinating anecdotes. It takes around 40 minutes to do the walk; you can either watch from your armchair or use it to do some background research before you undertake the walk yourself.
- You can view an introduction short taster of the film here, or order a free DVD from the Trust.
- For those who prefer something to listen to we have produced an audio version of the walk, which is also available to download directly to your phone or MP3 player. It is timed to run at the same pace as you walk but you can stop and start progress at any time to give you an opportunity to explore at your own pace. We have two versions: one is a smaller file size but lower quality, the other is higher quality but may take up too much room to fit on your phone.
Ouseburn Walk Audio Download: Small (6MB) or Large (14MB) - If you prefer to use a physical map we have a printed version of the route.
If you want a free hard copy of the DVD, a CD of the audio walk, or the hard copy map, please get in touch with the Trust by e-mail or telephone 0191 261 6596 and we will be delighted to send you one. You can also download our self-guide heritage walk leaflet: Self-guide heritage walk leaflet
For younger visitors, two family friendly Ouseburn Explorer walks can be downloaded from our Heritage publications page here.
