Properties

The Trust is a genuine stakeholder in the Ouseburn Valley through its own property portfolio, currently valued at over £1m.

We own several properties on Lime Street, including 'Hangar 51' which has been let in the past for short-term art exhibitions and events. At present, all of our properties are let to tenants, including Hangar 51.

For more information about any of our properties, please contact Naylors on 0191 2327030, www.naylors.co.uk

The Trust originally acquired this property through a Single Regeneration Budget improvement programme that began in the late 1990s and was led by the Trust. The long term impact of that programme was quite significant. Until then the area had a large number of businesses that relied heavily on traditional industries and a declining local market for their economic survival. This programme became a turning point for the area as it generated more inward investment to improve premises and the infrastructure of the valley. In turn this attracted new users to the area who now run businesses connected a worldwide economy based on intellectual capital, higher level skills and specialist knowledge. The service and leisure sector also plays a major role in generating wealth in the area.

The Trust has not done this on its own of course and it has worked in close partnership with others to ensure a steady transition from the old economy to the new.

The Trust’s property portfolio is handled by a qualified local managing agent, Naylors. Please contact them for any details about properties owned by the Trust. At present, all Trust properties have tenants.

Of course the Trust are not the only people developing and managing property in the area. There is a whole host of property available from other companies at a range of sizes and prices, some are fully commercial, some owned by the City Council, and others with more co-operative or altruistic models of ownership. If you are looking to relocate to the area a good place to start might be:

Hoults Yard - new media and creative office and studio spaces

Biscuit Factory and the Biscuit Tin - artist studios

The Mushroom Works and the Brick Works - commercial and affordable studios for artists, deisgners and makers

36 Lime St - affordable studio space in a heritage building in the heart of the Ouseburn

The Media Exchange - commercial media and office units on Stepney Bank

Woods Pottery - Project North East commercial office units

Toffee Factory

Lime Street in 2008 - the renovated and converted Steenbergs building next to the derelict 47-49 Lime Street. Both buildings are owned by the Trust - the former has been developed as commercial warehouse space below and reduced rate space above for Stepney Bank Stables Indoor Riding Arena. The latter building has been made safe and is awaiting development.
