Street Stars

Until March 2012, Street Stars was the community outreach arm of the Ouseburn Trust. The project is currently dormant due to funding and staff cuts.

Our community activities included

Business Breakfasts - a chance to network with other people working in the Ouseburn area, promote one's business and contribute to consultations about local developments.

Creative Links - free quarterly events at a range of venues for anyone with an interest to support the development of creative industries in the Ouseburn Valley.

Ouseburn Valley News - a free quarterly newsletter available in paper and electronic formats, reporting on local issues, news and developments.

Volunteers played a key part in Street Stars. Roles included admin support, marketing and publicising events, researching local events and activities and hosting Business Breakfasts.

Street Stars

The North East Empowerment Partnership (NEEP) has been delighted to support the Ouseburn Street Stars project during 2009-10. Street Stars has utilised the skills of local people as volunteers to provide a catalyst for developing local interest, engagement and action. Working at the heart of the local community Ouseburn Trust has provided a strong foundation on which to build the Street Stars ‘brand’. The energy, enthusiasm and creativity of staff has underpinned the early success of the project in engaging with local residential, business and visiting communities to provide an accessible source of local information and creating opportunities to share ideas and provide an avenue for engaging with local government.

Minna Ireland, Chairman, North East Empowerment Partnership

I don’t know any project that mixes work with the business community and broader community development work in the same way Street Stars does, which is what makes it such an interesting project. So that’s your biggest asset.

Andy Curtis, Community Development Foundation
