About the event

Victoria Tunnel is one of Newcastle upon Tyne’s engineering marvels, built as a 19th-century underground coal waggonway and re-used as a World War 2 air-raid shelter. Today, it serves as a fantastic visitor experience.

At the Ouseburn Trust, we can help you enjoy everything this historical monument has to offer through our public tours as well as through private tour packages. The Victoria Tunnel is a wonderful heritage destination that not only provides a highly informative experience but also a fantastic day out for children and adults alike.

Private group visits to the Victoria Tunnel

Private group visits to the tunnel are enjoyed by a wide range of visitors: local history groups, WIs, work teams, walking groups, scouts, birthday outings, reunions, cruise travellers, language schools, underground specialists, conference visitors, railway enthusiasts and so many more!

Typically, we can host 12- 15 people for a one and a quarter hour or two-hour tour.

For those who’d like to make a real event of visiting the Ouseburn, we can pair Victoria Tunnel tours with our Ouseburn guided walking tour and many of our local cafes and bars provide special offers to dine out for visitors to the Tunnel.

We require at least two weeks’ notice to book your private visit.
