Ouseburn Valley has a rich and fascinating heritage. The route of Hadrian’s Wall runs through the heart of the Valley, the river was once a key component in Newcastle’s industrial history, and during World War Two, Ouseburn was home to two significant public air-raid shelters.

Celebrating local heritage

Our aim is to protect and celebrate our local heritage. We look after photography and oral archives and work with a dedicated team of heritage researchers to gather precious information about our area’s history and development. We also bring to life heritage sites, such as the Victoria Tunnel, by making them accessible and educational. Crucially, we programme events and experiences which help people of all ages and backgrounds access the history of Ouseburn Valley.

Tunnel Tours

Today, you can visit the Victoria Tunnel through guided tours or through the Virtual Victoria Tunnel Experience. As Newcastle’s number one on TripAdvisor in ‘things to do in Newcastle’ for several years in a row, Ouseburn’s Victoria Tunnel is something everyone should experience.
